The Sleeping Warrior

The Sleeping Warrior is the profile of the north Arran hills in Scotland as seen from the Ayrshire coast. It is a well-known site that takes its name from a resemblance to a resting human figure.

🎼The Sleeping Warrior.🎶 Played on techno pipes, I made the backing track with Chord Pulse on PC.

WaterMoon Pipe Set 4/4

A set of 4/4 tunes or marches that I did not compose but arranged other peoples tunes for a pipe set. The first two tunes was made famous by the Australian band The Seekers,'The Water is Wide' and 'A World of our Own'  The third tune is a bagpipe march called 'Moonstar' composed by Charlie Glendinning.  I think it fits fairly well. No music for these yet but have a listen.

EZ Fingers Reel

EZ Fingers, Here is a reel that I have played around with for some time, that is why it ended up with six parts, you could always leave out the parts you don’t need if you are going to fit it into a set.

When you are playing the tunes, you can right click on the music (they are pictures) and select 'open in a new tab/page' you can then see the music a lot bigger.

Liquid Time - Nosebag Time - Slip Jigs

Two 9/8 jigs or sometimes called “slip jigs” There is a false fingered F and some slides in these, listen to the mp3 to hear them.

If you click your right mouse button on the above link and select 'save target as' you can save the MP3 and play it whenever you like.

Perry Gothic (set of reels)

Perry Gothic is the name of the font that I use on the headings of all my manuscripts

This tune is named after the software I use to write my tunes Piobmaster

Two Tree Island is a place in Essex, England. I don’t know if it has only two trees!

Mudchute (Jig set)

Mudchute is one of the stations on the Dockland Light Railway, I recently amended this, I think the changes make it better. False finger the C in the third part (listen to MP3)

A Jig I wrote for my son Dean, he has very long and bendy fingers and he is always cracking his knuckles, which Im sure doesn’t help!

CAYO, An EZ jig named after the district in Belize. You can easily slur or slide the note from C to D and D to E as marked on the tune. I know this is frowned upon by several pipers and teachers but I see no harm in copying the techniques used on the other Celtic instruments if used in the appropriate place like party's etc.

Cattle Landing & Rangers of Iraq

Cattle Landing is a small town in Belize. Rangers of Iraq was written to commemorate my regiments deployment in the Iraq war.

Colonel Tim Collins Royal Irish
his famous speech is here

The Canary (jig and reel)

The Canary is a simple effective tune that works well as a Jig or a Reel

Rangers Farewell Set

These two tunes were written for the amalgamation of the Royal Irish Rangers and the Ulster Defence Regiment they were supposed to be played at the Vesting day parade in Lemgo, Germany on 30th June 1992 by the Regimental Band, Bugles, Pipes and Drums of 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rangers. At the time I was the Pipe Major and had written these tunes to be played accompanied by the band. Unfortunately the Bandmaster could not be bothered to compose the band parts for the tunes. So the tunes were played by the Pipes and Drums on their own, they are simple to learn and can be very effective with simple harmony's, the third tune was written for my Battalion, I was in the 2nd Battalion but we all felt that we were “2nd to None” this was added to make a good marching set.

Click on all of the pictures for bigger versions, save them to your PC and print them.

The Runs Set of 4 Reels

The Runs - this started as a small exercise for learner pipers, you run up and down the chanter and the scale, I used to use this tune for the learners at Glencourse and Edinburgh Castle.

Orange Walk - This is a wonderful sounding name for a small town in Belize.

Hendo's Reel - This is named after one of my great mates from the Army, Kieth Hederson.

My GHB XP - OK this is a silly name, it stands for My Great Highland Bagpipe that I only play on the computer these days, my XP computer ... geddit?

Peel Avenue

Peel Avenue was the name of my street, in Shoeburyness. I originally composed the reel/hornpipe/march version and then came up with a jig version (it's on the MP3) This is quite a happy little tune and I'm quite proud of it, one of my favourites.

Mr Magpie - Set of 3 Reels

Click on the image for a bigger picture.
I came up with this when driving around in Essex, England. My area is surrounded by the beautiful birds The Magpie. It is supposed to be very unlucky if you only see one magpie, apparently because magpies are said to mate for life. That is why if you see one on it's own it is a sign of sadness, but if there are two then presumably the magpies at least are happy. There are other explanations too.
